Op-Ed: Accounting for homelessness takes more than a homelessness count

All Home CEO Tomiquia Moss has published an op-ed alongside Dr. Margot Kushel and Jennifer Loving for The Mercury News after the release of the June 2022 Bay Area homeless Point in Time (PIT) count. While the report may show that homelessness remains the region’s biggest challenge, it doesn’t reflect the many efforts to prevent and end homelessness that have successfully helped thousands of people.

Tomiquia and her co-writers argue that it is not a case of these evidence-based strategies being ineffective – they have helped keep the PIT count numbers from being even larger. Rather, homelessness persists because the scale has not met the need, and the Bay Area will not bring an end to the crisis without doubling down on what’s working and committing the resources required.
