As the Bay Area Jobs First Collaborative works to reimagine economic development across the region—rooted in equity, sustainability, and family-sustaining jobs—we are committed to bringing a wide range of stakeholders to the table, particularly communities that have historically been excluded. Consistent with our community and worker-centered approach to inclusive economic planning, we are looking to build meaningful relationships with Tribal communities—federally and non-federally recognized Tribes, Tribal organizations, and Tribal entities—to ensure Indigenous voices help shape the Bay Area’s regional economic future.

To support this work, the Collaborative is partnering with ReScape to design and lead a thoughtful engagement process with Tribal communities across the region.

ReScape is supporting the Collaborative with the following activities:

  • Mapping Tribal communities’ priorities and connecting them to the Collaborative’s resources
  • Assessing interest among Tribal communities in engaging with the work of the Collaborative
  • Developing an engagement plan that reflects Tribal priorities, governance, and sovereignty

A Commitment to Authentic Engagement

ReScape recognizes that economic development, environmental stewardship, and cultural preservation are inseparable. Their approach combines practical project expertise with deep respect for Indigenous knowledge and governance. Meaningful engagement requires patience, consistency, and genuine commitment to Tribal sovereignty

Guiding Principles for Engagement with Tribal Communities:

  • Respect for Sovereignty: Engagement will follow Tribal direction regarding how, when, and whether participation occurs.
  • Invitation to Dialogue: We are here to listen and ensure this process reflects Tribal priorities community needs.
  • Voluntary Participation: This is a regional planning opportunity, not an obligation—participation is entirely optional and on Tribal terms.
  • Reciprocity and Learning: We are committed to elevating Tribal knowledge, leadership, and innovation throughout the region.

Get Involved
