Indigenous and Immigrant Farm Workers Building a Climate Resilience Workforce

Lead organization: North Bay Jobs with Justice
Preliminary partners: Tribal EcoRestoration Alliance, Fire Forward, Watershed Resource & Training Center
Counties of operation: Marin, Napa, and Sonoma
Amount awarded: $908,581
Sectors: Sustainable Environmental Management

Created in partnership with leading regional climate adaptation and mitigation training organizations and Resilience Works, a high-road employer, this project will develop, implement, and expand a first-of-its-kind Spanish Language training series. Through the training series, 60 Spanish-speaking residents will be equipped with the experience and skills to do fuel reduction and vegetation management work over 18 months in the North Bay.

The project will grow and sustain a knowledgeable and skilled local workforce capable of addressing the scale of fuels management and forest resiliency projects needed in the region; expand equitable work and long-term career opportunities in the forest sector for Indigenous and immigrant farmworkers who are on the frontlines of the climate crisis; and serve as a model for workforce development that prioritizes equitable forest sector employment opportunities for marginalized and disadvantaged communities.
