Trades Women, Inc. High School Girls Construction Camp

Lead organization: Tradeswomen, Inc.
Preliminary partners: Santa Rosa Junior College, Construction Trades Workforce Initiative
Counties of operation: Marin and Sonoma
Amount awarded: $660,176
Sector: Construction

This project tackles the underrepresentation of women in the construction industry by introducing high school students to career opportunities in the trades. Despite California’s multi-billion dollar investment in infrastructure, there is a shortage of skilled workers. Women often leave construction jobs within four years due to limited opportunities and negative workplace culture. To change this culture and address the lack of awareness and confidence among female students, this initiative will inform young women about construction careers through classroom instruction, hands-on learning, mentorship, and leadership development. The project aims to make construction a viable career choice for women by equipping them with job readiness, life skills, and safety training, while also fostering confidence and teamwork.

The Catalyst funding will be critical in expanding outreach to underserved communities, developing targeted marketing campaigns, organizing informational sessions, and forming partnerships with local schools and community organizations. It will also assist in developing a robust curriculum, hiring qualified instructors, and creating hands-on learning activities. Additionally, the funding will provide wrap-around services such as mentorship, counseling, and job placement assistance to support participants’ long-term success.
