AssistHub is a tool designed by the Oakland Public Education Fund to guide individuals and families through accessing public benefits like SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program), unemployment insurance, federal financial aid, and CalFresh. Public benefits systems are frequently difficult to navigate and people are generally unaware of the full extent of resources available to them. These and other barriers result in billions of dollars worth of public assistance going unclaimed every year, and over 90% of families with children not receiving the full set of benefits to which they are entitled. In an effort to break down these barriers to accessing critical resources and create economic opportunity, AssistHub helps assess individuals’ benefits eligibility and provides them with the resources and coaching to file claims and maintain their benefits.
