The City of Healdsburg, in partnership with Reach for Home and Burbank Housing, collaborated to convert the 22-unit L&M hotel into interim housing for the city’s chronically homeless individuals. In December 2021, the L&M hotel was approved for $7 million in Homekey funds and in March 2022 the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors allocated $950,000 in capital funds. The site houses individuals for 30 days, with the option to renew based on need, and offers residents case management seven days a week with a 3:1 resident to case manager ratio, daily therapeutic activities, an on-site mental health professional available once a week by appointment, community mobile health and wellness unit on site once a week, on and off-site drug and alcohol treatment as needed, employment services and job-seeking assistance, a community garden program, and a facilities mentoring program. Since opening, L & M Village has provided shelter to 63 clients, housing vouchers to 26 clients, permanent housing for 24 clients and access to supportive services to many more participants. As of March 2022, Sonoma County has received Homekey funds for five projects, totaling 230 units to be used as interim and/or permanent housing. As a result, homelessness decreased by 66% in Healdsburg and 40% in northern Sonoma County from 2022 to 2023.
