Driven by a shared sense of urgency over the housing and climate crises, the City of Santa Rosa and Sonoma County came together in December 2018 to form the Renewal Enterprise District (RED) Housing Fund, a joint powers authority. The RED Housing Fund represents a commitment to a regional approach to increased housing development and greater climate and disaster resiliency. Its initial $20 million in funding will help accelerate “climate smart,” higher density, multifamily housing production, with the aim of ultimately creating a more balanced housing market across Sonoma County that is affordable to all community members.
RED funding from 2021 awarded:
- $800,000 to the Acme Family Apartments: 77 one-, two-, and three-bedroom units affordable to households earning between 30-60% of the AMI,
- $2,400,000 to Aviara: 136 units of two- and three-bedroom units affordable to households earning between 30-60% of AMI,
- $4,200,000 to Casa Roseland: 75 one-, two-, and three-bedroom units affordable to households earning between 30-60% of AMI,
- $1,300,000 to Pullman Lofts: 114 one- and two-bedroom workforce-attainable units across three phases of development, and
- $4,000,000 to South Park Commons: 62 studio, one-, two-, and three-bedroom units affordable to households earning between 15-50% of AMI.
